Over the course of its first weekend, Rajkummar Rao's gritty gangster action thriller Maalik has maintained a strong showing at the box office.
Strong word-of-mouth, captivating storytelling, and an outstanding performance by Rajkummar Rao as the lead seem to be helping the film, which was released to high anticipation.
Maalik ended the weekend on a positive note by earning about the same amount as Saturday, continuing its steady run on Sunday, according to preliminary estimates.
As per Sacnilk, after pulling in approximately Rs 3.75 crore on its opening day (Friday), the film saw a healthy upswing on Saturday with collections touching Rs 5.25 crore. That momentum carried into Sunday, with early trends once again pointing to a Rs 5.25 crore haul.
This brings Maalik’s estimated total weekend earnings to Rs 14.25 crore — a solid result for a film in a genre that relies heavily on strong audience reception.
Occupancy rates remained fairly balanced across regions, with peak activity during evening and night shows. On Sunday, the film recorded an average Hindi (2D) occupancy of 29.79% during evening shows and 22.81% at night. Earlier slots performed more modestly, with 8.05% occupancy in the morning and 22.43% in the afternoon.
Geographically, Chennai emerged as the strongest market with an impressive 43% occupancy. It was followed by notable turnouts in Lucknow (30.25%), Jaipur (24.25%), and the National Capital Region (23.25%). Meanwhile, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru showed steadier but more moderate attendance, ranging between 18% and 22%.
Set against the politically charged backdrop of Allahabad, Maalik is a compelling story of power, ambition, and retribution starring Rajkummar Rao, Manushi Chhillar, and renowned Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.
The film, which was co-produced by Jay Shewakramani and Kumar Taurani and directed by Pulkit, promises suspense, emotional drama, and surprising turns. On July 11, 2025, Maalik was released in theatres.
