L2: Empuraan becomes the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, surpasses Manjummel Boys with Rs 250 crore worldwide

Within just two days, it crossed Rs 100 crore globally, and its steady performance over six days propelled it past the Rs 250 crore mark. The film's global success was further amplified by its overseas collections, with its international distribution rights selling for Rs 30 crore - making it one of the most expensive Malayalam films ever in foreign markets.

With this, Prithviraj Sukumaran also becomes the only actor-director in Malayalam cinema to deliver such a massive box office hit.

Having already delivered blockbusters like Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil in 2024, Prithviraj continues to dominate the industry, proving that Malayalam cinema can stand tall with the biggest films in India.

According to Sacnilk, the Mohanlal-Prithviraj starrer has earned Rs 77.2 crore net in India despite the controversy surrounding it. It has also crossed the lifetime collections of Lucifer which was released in 2019.

Lucifer had collected Rs 65 crore net in 2019.

With L2: Empuraan, Prithviraj Sukumaran has redefined the standards of success in Malayalam cinema, proving that bold storytelling, strong performances, and grand filmmaking can create history at the box office.

L2: Empuraan also stars Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas in pivotal roles. L2 is the sequel to superhit film Lucifer, which had introduced Mohanlal's character as the mysterious Stephen Nedumpally, aka Khureshi Ab'raam.

The sequel delves deeper into the other side of the man who controls a nexus fighting drug cartels.
