21st May, 2025 marked a significant milestone in Janhvi Kapoor's career as her most recent film, Homebound, debuted in the esteemed "Un Certain Regard" section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
The cast and crew were clearly overcome with emotion after the screening received an incredible 9-minute standing ovation.
Director Neeraj Ghaywan, co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, and others joined her on this momentous occasion. They were all touched by the enthusiastic and warm response from the global audience.
Karan Johar, the well-known producer and director who supported the project, was also present. As he acknowledged the film's potent impact, Karan became emotional and was seen wiping away tears as he witnessed the audience's thunderous applause.
Janhvi's family were also visibly overwhemed by this experience.
Khushi Kapoor, her younger sister, and her father, producer Boney Kapoor, were seated in the audience with pride. As he celebrated his daughter's accomplishment, Boney was clearly emotional and had tears in his eyes.
Radiant with pride, Khushi grinned the entire time, encapsulating the happiness of a sister. Shikhar Pahariya, who is rumoured to be Janhvi's boyfriend, stood close to her and cheered as the team received a standing ovation. He has consistently stood by Janhvi, and his attendance at Cannes only served to strengthen their strong relationship.
Backstage, Boney Kapoor was seen engaging warmly with Karan Johar and offering heartfelt blessings to Ishaan Khatter. The moment was a picture of camaraderie and shared pride in the success of Indian cinema on a global stage.
Earlier, upon hearing of the film’s selection at Cannes, Janhvi had penned a moving note: “A moment where Indian cinema takes over the world. We are honoured to announce that #Homebound makes its way to the official selection at the 78th edition of the Festival De Cannes in the 'Un Certain Regard' category. Our hearts are full and we can't wait to show you all this journey on the big screens!”

Shikhar had reposted her announcement with a touching message: “She put her soul on screen, and now it's headed to Cannes. Proud is an understatement. @janhvikapoor .”
