Kangana Ranaut has unveiled the trailer for her highly anticipated film Emergency on the eve of Independence Day 2024.
The trailer, which released on August 14, has already piqued the interest of fans with its depiction of the "darkest times of democratic India."
Kangana, who not only stars as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but also directs the film, is joined by a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and Milind Soman.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the complex life of Indira Gandhi, beginning with her early political years under the guidance of her father, the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

It chronicles her navigation through wars, political upheaval, and the controversial period of Emergency, painting a picture of her life as a “Shakespearean tragedy.”
Emergency delves into one of India’s most turbulent political eras, and Kangana has described the film as a deeply dramatic portrayal inspired by William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. “The essence of Emergency is the destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints,” Kangana stated. “It is undoubtedly the most sensational chapter of Indian democracy.”
The film, originally slated for an earlier release, was postponed due to Kangana's involvement in the Lok Sabha elections, where she won a seat in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
Following her victory, Kangana announced the new release date, with the film set to hit theaters worldwide on September 6, 2024.
Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, Emergency boasts a strong creative team with screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah and music composed by Sanchit Balhara.
The film promises to offer a captivating and honest take on the events leading up to and following the Emergency, one of the most contentious periods in Indian history.
