Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph has firmly dismissed recent media buzz about a legal conflict over Drishyam 3’s Hindi remake, calling it “false and a media hoax.” In a detailed conversation with Deccan Chronicle, the acclaimed director cleared the air around reports suggesting he had threatened legal action against Ajay Devgn’s version rolling out before his own Malayalam film.
Joseph stated, “The reports are totally false… a media hoax. I have not spoken anything like taking legal action etc. We don’t need to take the legal route. No such situation has ever risen.”
According to him, the misunderstanding likely stemmed from regular discussions the Hindi remake team initiated to explore story possibilities. “They contacted us as they wanted to discuss some story idea with us,” he clarified.
The controversy took shape after speculation surfaced that Panorama Studios’ Hindi remake, directed by Abhishek Pathak, was set to begin before the original Malayalam version. Joseph shot that down: “I met director Abhishek Pathak in Cochin. He said he is just waiting for my script. There are no issues between us. We are in regular talks and have no issues at all.”
As far as timelines go, Joseph revealed that the Malayalam Drishyam 3 is still in the scripting stage. “Only the first half of the script has been finished. I have some reworks on it and will be finally polishing it. Also, it all depends on the dates of the actors,” he said. He confirmed that the team has not yet planned the shoot and that the film will only go on floors after the full script is ready — a process expected to take at least another month and a half.
He also explained the remake model being followed: “We are not dubbing the film in Hindi. It’s going to be like how we dealt with the previous parts — they will buy the rights, read the script, and make necessary changes according to their geographical and cultural context.”
While Panorama Studios is set to acquire the Hindi rights, the Telugu version will be handled by producer Suresh Babu.
Jeethu Joseph’s clarification now puts an end to swirling rumors. There’s no feud, no legal notice, and certainly no clash between the Malayalam and Hindi versions of Drishyam 3. Just a lot of patience, scripting, and mutual respect across teams.
