When Indian Idol 16 opened with a special tribute episode for the late superstar Dharmendra, longtime friend Jeetendra took the stage and delivered one of the most emotional moments of the season. In a promo shared by the show’s production, Jeetendra is seen visibly moved, greeting the audience by saying, “Bahut hi nek insaan the, meri life main unka bahut bada contribution hai.”
The segment belongs to the show’s “Yaadon Ki Baraat” series, a homage to icons who left an indelible mark on Indian film. As Jeetendra reminisced about their decades‑long friendship, the camera panned to judges and contestants wiping away tears. Among them, rapper‑judge Badshah appeared especially shaken.
Jeetendra and Dharmendra shared the screen in numerous classic films, including Dharam Veer, The Burning Train, Samraat, Insaaf Ki Pukar, Nafrat Ki Aandhi, Paappi Devataa, and Hum Sab Chor Hain. On the veteran actor's death, Jeetendra expressed his grief and told Times of India, “I don’t have words right now to express the intensity of emotion in my heart! I’ve lost a friend, more a brother to me! Even though we met less frequently in the last few decades, our friendship has always stood the test of time. An everlasting connection that went far beyond the professional equation we shared as co-actors in the several films we made together. The moments we shared shall live on forever in my heart. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP Dharam ji!”
Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89, marking the end of a remarkable career spanning over six decades and more than 300 films. He breathed his last at his Mumbai residence after facing health complications, including respiratory issues that had required recent hospitalization.
