Hollywood star and UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to Kherson, Ukraine, on Wednesday.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, Jolie toured several local medical facilities, including a maternity hospital and a children’s hospital.
In the maternity ward, she interacted with physicians, mothers, and patients. She even played with children who were receiving treatment. "Her visit was part of a charitable aid program aimed at providing humanitarian support in the region," Ukraine Today reported.
Days after a string of drone strikes in Kherson, a city across the Dnieper River from Russian military installations, Jolie made her surprise trip.
Social media users shared pictures of the actor posing with a Ukrainian soldier whose face was obscured for security reasons and talking to hospital staff while wearing full protective gear, including a helmet.
The visit has received a lot of attention both domestically and abroad, despite the fact that neither Jolie nor Ukrainian officials have publicly confirmed it.
According to local reports, Jolie visited a conscription office to arrange the release of one of her bodyguards who had been draughted into the Ukrainian Army during the trip before continuing her humanitarian work.
Jolie has served as a UNHCR Special Envoy for Refugees since 2011 and has frequently travelled to conflict zones to support displaced communities. She previously visited Ukraine in 2022 on her own initiative, meeting refugees at Lviv railway station and visiting children injured in the Kramatorsk railway attack.
On the professional front, Angelina Jolie will next appear in Anxious People. Her most recent film appearance was in Couture.
