Dwarf comedian Darshan, known for his YouTube comedy videos, has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor, a verdict delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Jindal.
Darshan was found guilty on March 11, following a complaint filed in September 2020 by the victim's mother. The prosecution revealed a disturbing pattern of manipulation and abuse, wherein Darshan lured the minor under the false pretense of casting her in a video.
According to the victim's lawyer, Rekha Mittal, Darshan contacted the minor and subsequently coerced her into accompanying him to Chandigarh. There, he allegedly raped her in a hotel room.
Further talking about the offense, Darshan attempted to legitimize his actions by falsifying documents to prove that the victim was an adult. He then forced her into marriage with the assistance of an organisation, an act aimed at circumventing legal protections and further exploiting the victim.
The court imposed a 20-year prison sentence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Additionally, Darshan received further sentences and fines under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, reflecting the gravity of his actions.
The court also mandated a compensation of Rs 2,00,000 to the victim, intended to provide some redress for the severe trauma she endured.
