Renowned Punjabi actor Jaswinder Bhalla passed away on Friday at the age of 65, leaving the entire entertainment industry and his admirers in deep sorrow. The actor was admitted to Fortis Hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage and breathed his last at 4:35 am.
As tributes poured in from across the country, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh was among the first from the Punjabi film fraternity to pay his respects. Taking to his Instagram Story, Diljit shared a photograph of Bhalla and wrote, “Oh Waheguru”—a simple yet heartfelt gesture that reflected his deep sadness over the veteran actor’s demise.
Jaswinder Bhalla made a lasting impression on Punjabi cinema, best known for his satirical genius in the hit series Chhankata and his comedic timing in films like Carry on Jatta and Jatt & Juliet. Over the years, audiences have loved and respected him greatly for his witty repartee, memorable one-liners, and effortless performances.
Political leaders also expressed their sorrow over his passing, praising his contributions to society as well as his artistic abilities. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to X to share his grief, writing, “The sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla Ji from this world is extremely sorrowful. The heart is saddened by the silence of the jingle of Chhankatian. May Waheguru grant him a place at His feet. Chacha Chatar will always reside in our hearts.”
Fortis Hospital, where Bhalla was admitted on August 20, released a statement detailing his final days. It said, “He was in a critical condition on admission. He was under the care of the Neurosurgery team and managed on ventilator and cardio supportive drugs for 2 days.
Due to the severity of his illness, he passed away today at 04:35 am despite receiving the best clinical care and all resuscitation efforts.

After learning of his tragic death, a number of actors and business associates hurried to his Mohali home to pay their condolences and show support for his bereaved family.
