Chum Darang on declining offers after Bigg Boss 18: Not getting nice offers, would not want to do stereotypical roles

After making waves with her appearance on Bigg Boss 18, actress Chum Darang is now speaking up about the grim reality behind the glitz. Despite the visibility she gained from the Salman Khan-hosted show, Chum admits she hasn’t received quality work offers since. “I’m getting a lot of offers but those are not very nice,” she shared in an interview with News18. “And from the very limited things that I get, I have to choose. That sometimes becomes a little discouraging for people who come from our region.”

Her frustration isn’t just about the quantity of offers, but the kind of roles being handed out. Chum made it clear that she isn’t willing to compromise her identity for the sake of screen time. “I would not want to do stereotypical roles. I can only vouch for myself. I can’t speak for others, but I really would want people to just be choosy when it comes to representing or going out there.”

Chum, who hails from the Northeast, also didn’t shy away from addressing a deeper issue—bias and discrimination in the industry. “With a face like this, I think discrimination has walked along. I’m being very blunt right now. It is true that we do look a bit different. People are not aware of the region that I come from,” she said. She pointed out how this lack of representation and understanding often leads to Northeast actors being sidelined. “It becomes tough for them to breakthrough,” she added.

The actress is choosing self-respect over screen time, refusing to take up roles that don’t align with her values. “If she agrees to something that doesn’t meet her standards, she would never do that,” the article notes, quoting her as saying she’s firm about the kind of work she’s willing to accept.
