After a challenging year filled with controversies, BTS' SUGA has finally resurfaced, bringing relief and joy to his devoted fans. The rapper had remained out of the public eye following a DUI incident in 2024, which led to significant media attention. However, a recent sighting of SUGA in Seoul has provided ARMYs with the long-awaited reassurance that he is doing well, lifting their spirits and fueling anticipation for his return.
A fan account on X (formerly Twitter) shared an update after spotting SUGA in Apgujeong Rodeo around 7:10 PM KST. The fan described the rapper, who was with a friend, wearing a black cap, a black short-padded jacket, and a white mask—his usual casual style. The fan also emphasised SUGA’s bright smile, noting that he appeared to be in good spirits. "Please don't worry, he seemed to be doing really well. He was smiling brightly with a friend," the fan wrote, offering comfort to concerned ARMYs about the K-pop idol's well-being.
The post quickly went viral, with "He was smiling brightly" trending across X. Fans around the world expressed their happiness and relief upon hearing that SUGA was in good health and spirits after months of silence. Since the DUI controversy, SUGA had kept a low profile, refraining from public interactions and not releasing any new solo music. His absence left fans worried about his mental and physical well-being, making this rare update all the more significant.
In 2024, SUGA faced backlash after being caught drunk driving an electric scooter. Although there were no casualties or major disruptions, the incident caused an uproar due to his high blood alcohol content, which was reportedly seven times over the legal limit. Following his public apology and a summary indictment that resulted in a fine of 15 million KRW, SUGA withdrew from the spotlight to focus on his recovery and personal life.
Currently, SUGA is serving his alternative military service and is expected to be discharged in June 2025.
