Veteran actress and dancer Madhumati passed away on October 15. She was 87.
The actress, known for her performance in films like Ankhen, Tower House, Shikari, Mujhe Jeene Do, made a significant contribution to the Indian film industry.
She was regarded as an amazing artist and frequently compared to Helen and other great performers of her era.
Soon after the reports of Madhumati’s death came out, several celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Vindu Dara Singh, among others, started pouring tributes on social media.
Akshay Kumar shared a never-before-seen pic with Madhumati and tweeted, “My first and forever guru. Everything I know about dance, I learnt at your feet, Madhumati ji. Har ada, har expression mein aapki yaad hamesha saath rahegi. Om Shanti.”
Actor Vindu Dara Singh took to X and extended his condolences. He tweeted, "Rest in peace, our teacher and guide #Madhumati ji. A beautiful life led, filled with love and blessing from so many of us who learnt dancing from this legend."
Who was Madhumati?
The veteran actress Madhumati was born in Maharashtra in 1938. She started her career as a dancer in 1957 in an unreleased Marathi film. She had been passionate about dancing since childhood. She was a trained Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, and Kathakali performer. She had also performed in movies.

Madhumati married a respected dancer, Deepak Manohar, at age 19. Deepak Manohar was much older from Madhumati and the father of four children. Although his wife had passed away earlier, Madhumati’s mother was against the marriage. The veteran actress married him against her mother’s wishes.
