According to Sacnilk, Haq collected Rs 1.65 crore net in India on its first day of release. The film registered 9.97% Hindi occupancy on Friday with 5.66% morning shows, 8.19% afternoon, 9.54% evening and 16.50% night shows.

Directed by Suparn Verma, Haq promises to revisit the complex debates surrounding personal law, gender equality, and justice that arose during the Shah Bano case.

According to the film's creators, Haq starts as a love story before turning into a heated discussion about a contentious issue that still needs to be resolved. The movie's courtroom scenes draw attention to more general policy issues, like Article 44 of the Constitution's Uniform Civil Code.
