Veteran actor Anupam Kher has announced a heartfelt initiative to honor the memory of his late friend and colleague Satish Kaushik. Anupam Kher revealed that he will donate the entire Rs 10 lakh he received from the Maharashtra Government after being conferred the prestigious Raj Kapoor Award.
The amount will be used to set up the Satish Kaushik Scholarship for underprivileged students at his acting institute, Actor Prepares.
Making the announcement on Instagram, Kher shared a picture of himself holding a cheque for Rs 10 lakh and wrote:
“SATISH KAUSHIK SCHOLARSHIP: The money I received from #MaharashtaGovernment for my #RajKapoorAward, I am happy to announce and institute the #SatishKaushikScholarship for a deserving poor candidate at my acting school @actorprepares. Also a statue of the smiling #SatishKaushik will be installed in one of studios at the #ActingSchool!”
Kher, who has been running the acting academy for two decades, emphasized that while scholarships have been awarded earlier, this marks the first time one has been named after an individual. “We do give scholarships from time to time to students but this is the First Time in 20 Years it is named after an individual. BRILLIANT ACTOR and an AMAZING HUMAN BEING and my BEST FRIEND!! Jai Ho! ❤️🙏❤️” he added.
The scholarship not only commemorates Satish Kaushik’s contribution to cinema and theatre but also underlines the deep bond of friendship the two actors shared. Kaushik, known for his versatile performances and warm personality, left behind a lasting legacy in Indian cinema. By naming the scholarship after him, Kher aims to keep that legacy alive while helping aspiring actors pursue their dreams without financial constraints.
In addition to the scholarship, Anupam Kher announced that a statue of Satish Kaushik will be installed at Actor Prepares, serving as a source of inspiration for future generations of actors.
