Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, the duo behind iconic films like 3 Idiots and PK, were set to reunite for a much-anticipated biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema. But just as the project seemed ready to roll, reports now suggest it has hit a roadblock. The reason? Aamir Khan has reportedly asked for the script to be reworked.
According to a Bollywood Hungama insider, Aamir wasn’t fully convinced when Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi narrated the script. While the narrative captured Phalke’s monumental journey, Aamir felt it lacked the trademark mix of humor and emotion that makes Hirani’s films connect with audiences. “He expected Raju and Abhijat to blend laughter with drama. But the script leaned too serious, raising doubts in Aamir’s mind,” the source shared. As a result, the actor asked Hirani to rewrite it before moving ahead.
The reaction has left Hirani and Joshi rethinking their approach. Originally, filming was scheduled to begin in October 2025, but with this unexpected pause, production is no longer on track. The project is effectively on hold for now, while Aamir has already begun listening to other scripts from different industries.

This biopic is significant given Dadasaheb Phalke’s legacy. Often hailed as the father of Indian cinema, he directed Raja Harishchandra in 1913, India’s first full-length feature film. Telling his story is not just a cinematic challenge but also a cultural milestone. The makers had even brought in FX studios from Los Angeles to design AI-powered visual references, ensuring an authentic recreation of the early 1900s.
The script has been under development for more than four years, with inputs from Hirani, Joshi, and writers Hindukush and Avishkar Bharadwaj. The delay will likely disappoint cinephiles, but the team appears intent on getting it right.
Meanwhile, Aamir was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, a sports comedy-drama where he played a former basketball coach tasked with training neurodivergent children. Produced by Khan alongside Aparna Purohit, the film introduced several new faces to Hindi cinema.
