The Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency, carved out as an independent electoral region post the 2008 delimitation, holds significant political importance within Maharashtra's parliamentary landscape. Prior to this, it was part of the Thane Lok Sabha constituency. Known for its six Vidhan Sabha segments, Kalyan has emerged as a stronghold for the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, reflecting the dynamic political dynamics of Maharashtra.

Historically, the BJP's Ram Kapse played a pivotal role in solidifying the alliance's influence, securing victories from 1989 to 1996. However, the subsequent transition of power to Shiv Sena saw leaders like Prakash Paranjape and later his son Anand Paranjape carrying forward the legacy. Their tenure saw the continued dominance of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in the constituency.

However, the constituency's political narrative witnessed a significant turn when internal discord led to Anand Paranjape's departure from Shiv Sena to join the NCP. This move marked a pivotal moment in Kalyan's political landscape, altering the dynamics and creating new avenues for political engagement.

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the Kalyan constituency witnessed a keenly contested battle, with Shiv Sena's Shrikant Eknath Shinde facing tough competition from NCP's Babaji Balaram Patil, BSP's Ravindra Kene, and other candidates. Shinde's victory underscored the constituency's unwavering support for Shiv Sena, as he garnered significant votes against his opponents.
