Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his cabinet ministers resigned on March 12 after BJP ended its alliance with the Dushyant Chautala-led JJP in the state.
BJP, which had formed a post-poll alliance with JJP in 2019, decided to end its ties due to disagreement over the seat-sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The saffron party is now going to form a fresh government in the state with the support of Independent MLAs.
Khattar to take oath again?
BJP MPs Nayab Singh Saini and Sanjay Bhatia have emerged as frontrunners to replace Khattar as the chief minister.
However, some BJP leaders from Haryana have said that Khattar will take oath as the chief minister again. The oath ceremony is slated to be held at 5pm, according to reports.
Speaking to ANI after today's developments, Haryana BJP MLA Krishan Lal Middha asserted that Manohar Lal Khattar will take oath as CM again.
"I think when the oath ceremony takes place today, Manohar Lal Khattar will take oath as CM again. I don't want to comment on why this alliance (with JJP) broke. This is the decision of the party high command. Observers are coming and if they ask us, our support is with Manohar Lal Khattar and he will take oath as CM for the third time and then later after the assembly elections, he will take oath for the fourth time," he said.
BJP leader Kanwar Pal Gujjar also said that Khattar will remain the chief minister of Haryana.
" ... CM sahab hi CM sahab rahenge," Gujjar said when asked who will take over the top post.
Meanwhile, BJP currently as 41 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana assembly. while JJP has 10.
BJP is confident of forming the new government with the support of 6-7 Independent MLAs.
