The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as a dominant political force in Haryana, reshaping the state's political landscape since the early 2000s. Established as a significant player in the state, the BJP's journey to power in Haryana has been marked by strategic alliances, dynamic leadership changes, and a focus on governance and development.
The BJP's ascent in Haryana gained momentum in the late 1990s and early 2000s, culminating in a historic victory in the 2014 state assembly elections. Manohar Lal Khattar's appointment as the Chief Minister marked a turning point, making him the first BJP leader to hold this position in the state. Khattar's tenure has not been without challenges, notably navigating farmer protests and maintaining law and order.
Despite these hurdles, the BJP retained power in the 2019 state assembly elections, albeit with a reduced majority. The BJP's rise to prominence in Haryana has been bolstered by strategic alliances with regional parties such as the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Jannayak Janta Party. These alliances have enabled the BJP to broaden its electoral base and secure majority support in the state assembly.

However, Khattar and his entire Cabinet resigned in March 2024 after a split in alliance between the JJP and the BJP and Nayab Saini of the BJP took oath as the new Chief Minister.
