The seven-hour-long student parliament at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday saw a unanimous demand for the cancellation of the 70th BPSC Combined Preliminary Competitive Examination. Candidates declared that nothing short of a re-examination would be acceptable to them.
While some initially pressed for a march to the Chief Minister's residence, Prashant Kishore, a prominent figure in the protest, informed them that the Chief Minister was out of town. The march was subsequently postponed.
Later in the evening, police resorted to lathicharge against students who broke barricades and attempted to move forward at JP Golambar. A delegation has been summoned for a 4 PM meeting with the administration.
Government Stance
Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena stated that the government is open to meeting with the candidates and discussing their concerns. He urged them to present their demands peacefully and avoid being influenced by external factors.
Political Reactions
Congress condemned the lathicharge, calling it an inappropriate response to the students' concerns. RJD also expressed full support for the candidates' demands and urged the government to reconsider its stance.
Legal Action
The district administration has initiated legal action against protesters involved in the disturbances near the Gandhi statue, including Prashant Kishore and 21 others.
