The Andhra Pradesh Education Department has unveiled significant reforms to the Intermediate education system, marking a transformative shift in curriculum, assessments, and examination structures effective from the 2025-26 academic year. BIAP Intermediate First-Year Exam Cancelled
In a major announcement, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to discontinue first-year Intermediate examinations. Kritika Shukla, Secretary of the Board of Intermediate Education Andhra Pradesh (BIEAP), stated that the board will focus solely on second-year exams to reduce academic pressure on students. Stakeholders, including students and parents, are invited to provide their feedback on this decision until January 26, 2025.
AP Intermediate 2025 Curriculum Overhaul
Starting with the 2025-26 academic year, the first-year Intermediate curriculum will adopt the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus. This transition aims to bring the state's educational framework in line with national standards. Additionally, BIEAP plans to introduce updates to textbooks and syllabi that have remained unchanged for several years, ensuring they meet current academic and competitive examination requirements.
Subject-Specific Revisions
Mathematics: The existing syllabus is considered more extensive compared to NCERT standards. Proposed changes aim to streamline content, potentially merging two papers into a single cohesive examination.
Biology: For students in the BiPC stream, the board is evaluating the integration of Botany and Zoology into a unified Biology subject to align with NCERT’s structure.
Language and Elective Options
Students will continue to have the flexibility to choose from a range of languages such as Telugu, Sanskrit, and Urdu as part of their curriculum, accommodating diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Assessment Modifications
A notable change in the evaluation process is the introduction of internal practical marks across all subjects. Each subject will now include 20 marks allocated for internal assessments, shifting the focus to continuous evaluation rather than sole reliance on final examinations.

BIEAP is actively seeking public opinion on these proposed reforms. Stakeholders, including students, parents, and educators, are encouraged to submit their feedback through the official website by January 26, 2025.
Implementation Timeline
