The offer will be available for a strict three-week period, from August 23 until September 12.

In a move aimed at clearing a backlog of unresolved cases, the Karnataka government has announced a substantial, one-time discount on penalties for overdue traffic e-challans.

The 50% concession applies specifically to pending fines generated by the Police Department’s mobile e-challan system, which are digital notices sent to offenders via SMS or email. As reported by TOI, the offer will be available for a strict three-week period, from August 23 until  September 12.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police has confirmed that motorists looking to avail of the 50% penalty reduction can pay their discounted fines through multiple channels. Payments are accepted via the official police website (https://btp.gov.in/), through their dedicated mobile application or in person at the nearest traffic police station.

The decision, formalised in a government order dated August 21, comes after a request from the Commissioner of Transport and Road Safety for a similar concession to settle older cases registered within their department. However, after consideration, the government opted to limit the scheme solely to the Police Department's mobile e-challan system, a detail confirmed in the official order, as per TOI.
