A car heading from Nepal to Gorakhpur narrowly avoided a serious accident when it landed precariously on the edge of an under-construction flyover in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district along National Highway 24 late Sunday night.

The car allegedly followed directions given by a GPS app. However, the app did not show that the flyover on National Highway 24 (Gorakhpur-Sonauli Road) was incomplete, India Today reported.

The accident took place at Bhaiya Farenda, where work on the flyover is still ongoing. According to locals, one side of the flyover appears complete and looks like a regular road, which misleads drivers. However, the other side is still under construction and has large gaps that are yet to be filled with soil.

Due to poor lighting and no warning signs, the driver did not realise the danger. As the car reached the top of the flyover and came face-to-face with a sudden pit, the driver hit the brakes. But it was too late. The car slipped into the gap on the unfinished side and ended up hanging dangerously. Thankfully, everyone in the car escaped unharmed and were safely rescued.
