A 27-year-old woman was gang-raped and robbed by a group of men masquerading as police officers in a brutal attack near Nelamangala on Tuesday night. Bengaluru Rural police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects following the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
The assailants targeted the survivor's rented home, barging in at approximately 9:30 pm on 21 October. According to a report in TOI, the five men entered the residence claiming to be local police. They immediately accused the women inside of possessing ganja and being involved in flesh trade.
The intruders demanded Rs 1 lakh. They then allegedly attacked the survivor and another woman from her hometown with a cricket bat and a machete.
The complaint details how the men gagged the survivor's younger son and a man from Assam, a friend of her husband who resided in the adjacent house, locking them in a toilet. The woman's husband was at work when the incident occurred.
With the husband absent, the situation escalated rapidly. Three of the men dragged the 27-year-old beautician to a room in the adjacent house and raped her. The gang also stole Rs 25,000 in cash and two mobile phones before fleeing.
The survivor's elder son, who was outside during the initial intrusion, managed to contact the police control room. A Hoysala patrol vehicle responded swiftly, but the suspects had already escaped from the scene.
The survivor, who is originally from West Bengal, lives with her husband and their two sons. She works as a beautician for weddings and other functions.
While three suspects have been apprehended, a manhunt is underway for the two remaining individuals. The police reportedly indicated that the motive behind the horrific crime is still under scrutiny.
