After President Donald Trump announced sweeping global tariffs, all eyes seem to be on US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

According to a report by Politico, White House insiders said the tariffs may liberate Lutnick from his current role in the administration.

Announcing  reciprocal tariffs on over 180 countries, Trump on April 2 billed it as "Liberation Day," promising it will put an end to US reliance on foreign goods.

Trump announced new import tariffs outlining the rates to be imposed on countries around the world. India will face a 26 percent tariff.Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "great friend," Trump said that India charges the US 52 per cent, and "we charge them almost nothing."
