Nepal’s finance minister Bishnu Paudel was reportedly attacked by a crowd of protesters, according to a video that has gone viral on the internet.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify the video and the time and date of the incident.
In the video, a man can be seen running away from a crowd of angry protesters, who kicked, punched and dragged the individual before being rescued by bystanders.
Although the person’s face is not clearly visible, multiple reports claimed that the individual was Paudel.
Moreover, the minister’s house in Bohoratpur was vandalized by the protesters, News18 reported.
The development comes amid widespread protests over a government ban on social media, which was later overturned.
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Oli resigned on September 9 after almost 48 hours of violent protests led to the death of at least 19 and injuries to several demonstrators.
In his resignation letter to President Paudel, Oli cited the "extraordinary circumstances" facing Nepal and said he is quitting to pave the way for a "constitutional and political" resolution of the current situation, they said.
Earlier, home minister Ramesh Lekhak had resigned on Monday.
The protestors, meanwhile, stormed the Parliament complex on September 9, escalating the situation in the country.
The students-led protests reflected the growing public anger with the political class over a range of issues including a ban on social media and alleged corruption with demonstrators gathering at the heart of Kathmandu and elsewhere despite curfews and heavy deployment of security forces.
Though the Nepal government last night revoked its ban on social media websites following the protests led by 'Gen Z' youths, the agitators continued their demonstration against corruption and demanding accountability for deaths of 19 people.
Hours before Oli's resignation, the protesters set on fire the Nepalese leader's private house in Balkot, and attacked residences of former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Communication minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak among others.
The protesters also attacked the private residence of President paudel.
The Gen Z group, which has been campaigning against corruption for some time, has used social media platforms like Reddit and Instagram to expose what they called the "extravagant lifestyles of the children of ministers and other influential figures." They have posted videos and images, questioning the sources of wealth that fund such opulence, purportedly derived from corrupt practices.
