US President Donald Trump responded to Beijing’s grand military parade, calling it a “beautiful ceremony” but noting the absence of any reference to the United States, Reuters reported.
Speaking to reporters, Trump remarked that Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appeared to be aligning against Washington during the event.
Trump also mentioned that Putin and Xi “were hoping I was watching” as they stood together at the parade.
“I thought it was very very impressive, but I understood the reason they were doing it. And they were hoping I was watching — and I was watching,” Trump said, as quoted by The New York Post.
Despite his appreciation for the ceremony, Trump expressed disappointment that President Xi did not mention or thank US troops during his speech. “I thought that the United States should have been mentioned last night during that speech, because we helped China very, very much," Trump said.
This came only hours after Trump suggested that Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were aligning against the United States during the Beijing event.
