Days after India paused Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian military is now reportedly discussing a plan to “rebalance troops” to prevent potential border tensions with Pakistan, according to The Indian Express.
Pakistan is also planning to return back to pre-April positions after the mobilization of troops along the international border, the report further cited.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized in his address to the nation, Operation Sindoor is only on pause. The military will continue to maintain a heightened state of alertness and operational readiness, with security alerts remaining at elevated levels.
Indian armed forces did not order any large scale troop movements or deployment of offensive forces unlike Pakistan that gathered large forces and military arsenals near the international border.
In India's case, only some equipment and troops were moved from their usual bases to operational positions, and they are now expected to return to their regular locations cited the Indian Express report.
While Indian and Pak armies are focusing on multiple confidence-building measures, plans for de-escalating troops and equipment from the borders within the next fortnight are being considered, report mentioned.
During Operation Sindoor, troop presence along the border had increased primarily due to the cancellation of leave and restrictions on non-essential movement. However, according to sources cited by The Indian Express, these curbs have now been eased. Short-term training programs, which had been temporarily halted, are also set to resume as scheduled.
