US investigators said Thursday they are confident they will identify the gunman who shot dead right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk at a university in Utah, having recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon and "good video footage" of the suspect.
At a media briefing, Beau Mason, commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, told reporters that authorities have gathered images of the individual. "We do have good video footage of this individual. We are not going to release that at this time," Mason said. He added that investigators are "working through some technologies and some ways to identify this individual" and are "confident in our abilities right now," AFP reported.
FBI agent Robert Bohls confirmed that investigators have "images of the suspect" and have recovered the rifle used in the attack. "We have recovered what we believe is the weapon that was used in yesterday's shooting. It is a high powered bolt action rifle," Bohls stated.
The search for the gunman is ongoing. Bohls said, "We're doing everything we can to find him, and we're not sure how far he has gone yet, but we will, we will do our best."
