At the Gaza peace summit held in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, United States President Donald Trump referred to Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir as his “favourite Field Marshal,” even though Munir was not present at the event. While inviting Pakistan’s Prime Minister to speak, Trump said, “Prime Minister Sharif of Pakistan and I have to say my favourite Field Marshal from Pakistan who is not here but the Prime Minister is here.”
The summit was attended by representatives from more than twenty countries. During the event, Trump also commented on India, saying, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top and he’s just done a fantastic job and I think Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together.” Looking at Sharif, he asked, “Right?” After a brief exchange, Trump added, “They will, they will.”

While addressing the gathering, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that his country had nominated the US President for the Nobel Peace Prize. He stated, “Pakistan had nominated President Donald Trump for Nobel peace prize for his outstanding, extraordinary contribution to first stop war between India and Pakistan and then achieve ceasefire along with his very wonderful team.”

He added, "Suffice to say, had it not been for this gentleman, who knows, India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers, had he not intervened with his wonderful team during those four days, the war could’ve escalated to a level and who would’ve lived to tell what happened."

Sharif referred to the military confrontation between India and Pakistan earlier in May. He said, “This is because he has brought not only peace in South Asia, saved the lives of millions of people there, and today here in Sharm el-Sheikh, achieving peace in Gaza is saving millions of lives in the Middle East.” He added, “I would like to salute you for your exemplary leadership, visionary leadership, and I think that you are the man this world needed most at this point in time."

Trump has previously said that he helped broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the four-day exchange in May. India has denied that any external party played a role in that situation.
