1. Khardung La, Ladakh
Formerly the world's highest motorable road, Khardung La at 5,359 metres is the stuff of legend. Thin air, snow-covered roads, and hairpin turns make the trip intimidating but give visitors stunning Ladakhi vistas.
2. Zoji La, Jammu and Kashmir
Zoji La, linking Srinagar to Leh, is one of the most challenging Himalayan passes. Snowstorms, landslides, and a single-lane road make it a heart-stopping drive, particularly in winter.
3. Baralacha La, Himachal Pradesh

6. Chang La, Ladakh

7. Lipulekh Pass, Uttarakhand
This high-altitude pass at 5,334 meters is one of the routes of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The treacherous, narrow trails, harsh winds, and uncalculated terrain make it India's most perilous trek.
8. Sela Pass, Arunachal Pradesh
Sela Pass at 4,170 meters is the supply line to Tawang. The road is snowed under for most of the year, with sharp turns and icy lakes that make it even tougher.
9. Bum La Pass, Arunachal Pradesh
Near the Indo-China border, Bum La is usually snow-covered and inaccessible. To drive here, one needs an army permit, but the unspoiled beauty of the Eastern Himalayas is worth it.
10. Kunzum Pass, Himachal Pradesh
Connecting Lahaul with Spiti Valley, Kunzum at a height of 4,551 metres is both narrow and rough. Gravel roads, precipitous ramps, and few safety fences make it a courageous crossing.
