Taj Mahal in Agra is one of the most beautiful expressions of love and an architectural masterpiece in the world. This masterpiece is a white marble building constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in honour of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, as a tomb and a monumental monument of devotion. The monument was completed in 1653, and over 20 years of careful work had taken place, and the monument still amazes millions of people with its symmetry, beauty and poetic grace.

The Taj Mahal complex is built on the Yamuna River shores and occupies 42 acres, and the entire complex is designed in the ideal spirit of Mughal gardens. It has a grand marble mausoleum, topped by a shining dome, which appears to be suspended in the air in the middle. The monument is framed by four slender minarets that are slightly leaned outwards to cushion the main tomb in case it collapses in case of an earthquake - another indication of remarkable engineering vision.

The cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal are housed within an octagonal marble chamber with a complex inlay pattern made of precious stones such as jade, turquoise and lapis lazuli, found inside. The walls are adorned with delicate calligraphy of Quranic verses, carved flowers and exquisite pietra dura designs, transforming cold marble into an emotion-filled canvas.

In addition to its architecture, the Taj Mahal is an amalgamation of the Persian, Islamic and Indian cultures, which is indicative of the cultural diversity during the Mughal rule. The monument varies depending on the light - rosy in the dawnlight, milky white in daylight, and golden in moonlight - which brings an aura of constant romance.
