With over 7,000 islands, crystal-clear waters, dramatic volcanoes, and some of the world’s friendliest locals, the Philippines has long been a dream destination for beach lovers and adventure seekers alike. From island-hopping along palm-fringed shores to diving into vibrant coral reefs and exploring centuries-old cultural heritage, it offers an unforgettable tropical escape. In 2024 alone, the country welcomed more than 14.7 million international tourists.

Yet despite its growing popularity and postcard-perfect appeal, the Philippines has now earned a startling new title: the world’s most dangerous country for travelers in 2025.

According to a newly released Global Travel Safety Index by HelloSafe—a financial comparison platform that analyzed 35 objective indicators—the Philippines tops the danger list with a score of 82.32 out of 100. The ranking comes as a surprise to many, especially those who’ve experienced the warmth and hospitality of the islands firsthand.
