On September 25, Noida is set to launch its first Waste to Wonder Park, officially known as the Noida Jungle Trail. Located in Sector 94, adjacent to the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, on approximately 18-20 acres, the park is a unique urban project that utilises over 500 tonnes of discarded iron and plastic scrap to create nearly 800 sculptures of animals, birds, and even dinosaurs.
The purpose of this new public space has been not only to create a leisure park but also to have a creative demonstration of sustainability. It provides a learning experience to school groups as well as a family outing to all residents of Delhi-NCR.
A Park in Three Zones
Three different zones in the park provide varying experiences. The first is approximately four acres and serves as an entry and recreational space. It has an amphitheatre that can seat approximately 1,000 people, a food court, a convention area, a play zone, and a picnic area.
The second and biggest area of nearly nine acres is a reconstruction of diverse ecosystems around the world. There are themed walks based on tropical rainforests, deserts, grasslands and wetlands, and life-sized sculptures recreate these habitats. Not only does each part entertain, but it educates as well, raising awareness of biodiversity.
The third zone, covering approximately five and a half acres, is nearer to the Bird Sanctuary at Okhla. This region is a more realistic depiction of the natural world as it is an oceanic, polar, and temperate forest.
Accessibility and Facilities.
It has two major points of entry, one near Dalit Prerna Sthal and one near the Sector 94 Metro station. Parking areas will have a maximum capacity of 500 vehicles, thus making the facility visitor-accessible even during peak times such as weekends. The various sections of the park are linked by a footbridge and an underpass, which ensures that people move around easily.
Unique Attractions
The first jungle night safari in Noida has also been introduced in the park, which is one of the most exciting aspects. Tourists will get a chance to visit the park during the night, when they will be driven around the park using battery-powered carts, and the sculptures will be lit using atmospheric lighting.
The Waste to Wonder Park is also inspired by similar projects in Delhi, where scrap materials have been used to make copies of world monuments. The version by Noida, however, centres around wildlife and nature habitats, and so it is a unique addition to the attractions in the region.
The Waste to Wonder Park is bound to have a broad range of visitors when it opens to the public on September 25, ranging from families and tourists to educators and environmentalists. In the case of Noida, it is not only a success in garbage disposal but also a new initiative in city leisure.
