Mizoram is all set to script history as it finally finds a place on India’s railway map. The much-awaited Bairabi–Sairang railway line, a 51.38-kilometre-long engineering marvel, is ready for launch after nearly a decade of construction. Built at a cost of over Rs 8,000 crore, the project promises to transform connectivity, boost the economy, and unlock new opportunities for one of India’s most remote yet beautiful states.

The Bairabi–Sairang rail route cuts through some of the toughest terrain in the Northeast. It features an impressive 153 bridges, 45 tunnels, and India’s second-tallest pier bridge standing at 114 metres—taller than Delhi’s Qutub Minar. To ensure smooth integration with local transport, the project also includes five road overbridges and six underpasses.

The line will directly connect Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, with India’s national railway grid for the very first time. The newly-built Sairang Railway Station, located just 12 kilometres from Aizawl, will serve as the state’s main rail hub with two platforms, three tracks, and modern amenities.
