Goa is set to redefine its tourism landscape with the launch of four transformative projects aimed at blending culture, sustainability, and community engagement. The foundation stone laying ceremony, attended by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, and Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, marks a significant step toward making Goa a year-round experiential tourism hub.
The four upcoming projects promise to diversify Goa’s tourism offerings while promoting local heritage, entrepreneurship, and environmental conservation.
1. Town Square, Porvorim
The Town Square in Porvorim will serve as a vibrant public space, combining landscaped gardens, walking trails, amphitheatres, and open-air event zones. Designed to enhance both the quality of life for residents and the urban leisure experience for visitors, the Town Square aims to set a new benchmark for smart urban tourism spaces in Goa.
2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Farmagudi
Farmagudi will host the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, dedicated to India’s legendary Maratha warrior. The museum will feature interactive exhibits and immersive storytelling, highlighting the historical, cultural, and maritime heritage of the Konkan region. This project is expected to enrich Goa’s historical tourism landscape while offering educational and cultural experiences to visitors.
3. PM Ekta Mall (Unity Mall), Chimbel
The PM Ekta Mall under the Government of India’s Unity Mall scheme will promote the “One District, One Product” initiative, showcasing local handicrafts and providing artisans and self-help groups with a direct market interface. Developed with an investment of ₹200 crore, the mall aims to act as a national platform for cultural exchange, entrepreneurship, and local employment generation, putting Goa’s traditional craftsmanship in the spotlight.
4. Eco-Tourism Project, Harvalem
Set amidst North Goa’s lush landscapes, the Harvalem Eco-Tourism Project will focus on sustainable and regenerative tourism, preserving Goa’s rich biodiversity. The initiative includes eco-trails, interpretation centres, and environmentally friendly visitor amenities, designed to provide immersive nature experiences while minimizing environmental impact.
Speaking at the event, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah praised Goa’s approach to balancing tourism growth with heritage and environmental conservation, stating, “These projects reflect a forward-thinking vision of tourism that celebrates India’s diversity while empowering local communities.”
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant added that the initiatives collectively aim to create world-class tourism infrastructure that safeguards cultural heritage while promoting economic opportunities. Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte highlighted Goa’s shift from a season-based destination to a year-round experiential hub, emphasizing sustainable, inclusive growth connecting travelers with Goa’s culture, nature, and creativity.
Together, these four projects represent a strategic leap toward tourism diversification, enhancing visitor experiences, empowering local communities, and positioning Goa as a model for balanced and future-ready tourism development.
