Tamil Nadu govt dials Fairfax-backed Bangalore International Airport to set up Hosur airport

BIAL holds a concession agreement with the Union Civil Aviation ministry restricting new airports within 150 Km of KIA until 2033. Since Hosur falls within this radius, TN government is looking to partner with BIAL to get around  the stipulation and expedite work

The Tamil Nadu government has tapped Fairfax-backed Bengaluru International Airport Limited to set up the proposed new airport at Hosur , people familiar with the development told Moneycontrol.

On June 27, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced plans to build an international airport in Hosur with a projected capacity of handling 30 million passengers annually. new airport will be spread across 2,000 acres.

According to the people cited, top officials from Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) held a discussion with BIAL representatives recently on this issue.

“BIAL was positive, but more discussion will take place in the coming days”, one of the people said.
