The PlayStation Portal remote player (PS Portal)– Sony’s first dedicated remote play device– has got a new system software update, Hiromi Wakai, VP of Product Management, Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced in an official post on the PlayStation Blog. The PS Portal update began rolling out to users outside Europe on November 19 and will release for users in Europe on November 20.
PlayStation Portal system update brings refined audio, cloud streaming in beta
One of the objectives behind the PS Portal remote player update is to refine the audio experience on the PS Portal. The system update to the handheld device brings two audio-related refinements and the cloud streaming feature in beta.
- The PlayStation Portal remote player update adjusts the speaker audio output of the device; this makes for lower volume than before at the minimum audio level.
- With the PS Portal system update, players can now adjust the settings of their PlayStation Link device from the PS Portal Settings menu. Thus, they can optimise the volume and sidetone volume.
As mentioned before, the PS Portal update also brings a beta version of the cloud streaming support feature on the remote player. With the new update, PlayStation Plus Premium members can now participate in a beta for cloud streaming on PS Portal. They can stream select PS5 games in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog directly from Sony’s servers, without the need for a PS5 console.
In the beta phase, Sony is allowing more than 120 PS5 games from the PS Plus Game Catalog to be streamed over cloud. These include titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Dave the Diver and more
However, the features available in Cloud Streaming (Beta) on PS Portal during the beta period may change later and are not final yet.
