If the Find X8 Pro is the epitome of Oppo's flagship, then the Oppo Find X8 – the non-Pro model – is the embodiment of the flagship. The Find X8 offers nearly everything that the Pro model has, but with a few necessary tweaks and changes to keep the price in check.
Talking about the price, the Find X8 starts at Rs 69,999 for the base 12GB + 128GB and Rs 10,000 premium for the 16GB + 512GB variant. And, this is what makes the phone so interesting because it runs on the same processor – MediaTek Dimensity 9400 – as the Find X8 Pro.
Also, the phone even comes with an almost similar camera setup – three 50MP sensors – minus the 6X telephoto 50MP sensor is missing though. It even runs the same ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. That’s not it
The main question is how Oppo managed to keep the price in check. Are there any major compromises here? Is it big enough for users to look at the Pro model or some other options in this price range, after all, this is an entry price for almost every flagship phone out there – the iPhone 16, and Galaxy S24.
Having used the Oppo Find X8 for almost a month, here are my thoughts on the phone.
Oppo Find X8 design and display
Oppo Find X8’s design is perhaps the biggest difference you’ll find between the regular and the Pro model. The phone features a flat display with rounded corners on all sides. Don’t fret, it is still the glass sandwich design as the Pro model, but flatter from both front and back. It is 193 grams which makes it pretty lightweight. Also, it’s just 7.85mm thick which is also decent enough. The flat rails make the phone comfortable to hold and less slippery too. In fact, the hand feel of the phone is even better than the Find X8 Pro.
The phone’s size is adequate for single-hand use and the button placement is on point with both power and volume buttons that can be reached with a simple stretch of fingers. Also, the Quick button from the Pro model is missing from the Find X8 model. This is one of the few things Oppo perhaps saved some money on.
The charging port, SIM tray, microphone and primary speaker are placed at the bottom, the top has an IR blaster and secondary microphone.
The front of the phone has a 6.59-inch FHD+ Adaptive 120Hz refresh rate with 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate. It’s an OLED panel with a 100% DCI-P3 rate in all three modes – Nature, Pro and Vivid.
The display quality is just impressive. The colours, vibrance and contrast levels are just perfect. Viewing content including movies, shows, gaming, and even for general use, the display works like a breeze.
During my daily use, I used the phone in almost every scenario and the display brightness – 4500 nits is more than enough to handle even the brightest possible scenarios. The display also gets dim enough to not feel uncomfortable during bedtime social media feed scrolling or last-minute shopping needs.
Overall, the display and design of the phone are flagship-grade without any compromise.
Oppo Find X8 performance review
I have already used the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 in the Find X8 Pro. My skepticism for the 9400 chip was quelled and the Find X8 further trampled on it.
The combination of the Dimensity 9400 and Oppo’s Trinity Engine optimisation delivers a seamless balance of performance and efficiency. With 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, the device is designed to handle demanding tasks effortlessly.
Under regular usage, the phone operates smoothly, with minor stutters only appearing under exceptionally heavy workloads. Oppo’s inclusion of an upgraded vapour chamber for heat management ensures effective thermal control. Even during intensive usage, the phone maintained stable performance without significant overheating. It does warm up slightly during prolonged photo or video capture sessions, but never to an uncomfortable level.
Gaming on the Find X8 Pro stands out as a highlight. High-performance titles like Genshin Impact, Call of Duty Mobile, and BGMI ran smoothly with impressive frame rates. Genshin Impact, in particular, managed a steady 60fps during a 90-minute session, demonstrating the phone’s capability to handle demanding games. Lightweight games like Subway Surfers and Candy Crush also posed no issues, reinforcing the phone’s versatility for casual and hardcore gamers alike.
Overall, the Oppo Find X8 Pro showcases the Dimensity 9400’s potential, backed by efficient thermal management and optimised software for a well-rounded user experience.
The Oppo Find X8 comes preloaded with ColorOS 15, built on Android 15. The latest iteration brings smoother animations and a more refined user experience. With a wide array of customisation options and features, users can personalise the device to suit their preferences.
The software also incorporates several AI-powered tools to enhance functionality. One notable addition is the AI-powered object removal feature within the Photos app. This tool effectively eliminates unwanted elements from images and is generally well-optimized for most scenarios. Another useful feature is the AI reflection removal tool, which removes reflections from glass surfaces, performing reliably during use.
A new “Circle to Search” feature has also been introduced, allowing users to search for information without leaving their current screen. By tapping or circling an area, users can initiate a search seamlessly.
Additionally, ColorOS 15 includes AI writing tools designed to summarize content from PDFs, websites, and other documents. The tools can even generate written content based on specific commands. While these features show promise, some improvements are needed, as the summarization occasionally omits key details.
Oppo Find X8 camera review
Oppo Find X8 comes with a triple rear camera setup. All three of them are 50MP sensors. This goes without saying that Oppo has focused on enhancing the camera capabilities of the Find X8, moving away from the traditional flagship setup where the primary sensor is the standout while telephoto and ultra-wide lenses take a backseat. The setup includes a 50MP 1/1.4-inch Sony Lytia LYT-808 primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP 1/1.95-inch Sony LYT-600 telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and OIS, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
Oppo has introduced seamless zoom functionality, allowing the camera system to maintain optical quality without relying on digital zoom within this range. This enhances the versatility of the camera setup, ensuring consistent performance across varying focal lengths.
During testing, the primary sensor captured vibrant, sharp, and detailed images with full dynamic range. The 3x telephoto lens produced equally impressive results, delivering detailed and sharp images with well-balanced colours. The ultra-wide sensor maintained minimal distortion while preserving details and colour accuracy, aided by Hasselblad’s colour tuning across all sensors.
One standout feature is the seamless colour consistency between sensors, minimising variations in white balance and colour tones when switching lenses. Additionally, the shutter lag has been eliminated, enabling users to capture consecutive shots quickly and accurately. The AI-assisted shutter system even begins capturing images as soon as the button is pressed, identifying the best shot for users to keep.
The camera system also features an impressive zoom range of up to 120x. While detail retention is excellent up to 20x, the performance starts to diminish beyond that point. However, photos up to 50x remain usable for social media purposes. The device also performed exceptionally well in capturing moving subjects, producing blur-free shots consistently.
Portrait mode on the Find X8 offers multiple zoom levels, allowing users to capture images with natural-looking bokeh effects. The skin tones remain accurate, and the device offers a beauty mode for additional customisation. In low-light scenarios, the Find X8 excels, capturing detailed and vibrant shots with minimal processing artefacts. Features like tripod mode enhance low-light photography by automatically extending the shutter speed to gather more light and detail.
The Find X8 also includes auto-detection modes such as Stage and Fireworks, which worked reliably during testing. Other creative shooting modes are available, including a specialised tripod mode for long-exposure photography.
Overall, the Oppo Find X8 offers a well-rounded and versatile camera experience, making it a compelling option for those prioritising photography in a flagship smartphone.
Oppo Find X battery review
Oppo Find X8 comes with a 5630mAh Silicon carbon battery that allows the company to pack a bigger battery without increasing the overall thickness of the device. The phone’s battery is big enough to deliver almost 2 days of battery life under normal to moderate use. Under heavy use, the phone still manages to deliver a 1 and half days of battery life without any doubt.
The phone supports 80W SuperVooc charging which charges the phone from 0 % to 100% in around 45 minutes. The phone also supports 50W wireless charging with Oppo Mag support, an added bonus for users.
Oppo Find X8 review verdict
Oppo Find X8 is priced starting at Rs 69,999 and for the price, the phone runs the same processor as the significantly expensive – Find X8 Pro. That’s not it. The phone also has a triple camera setup backed by Hasselblad which is once again similar to the Pro model. Adding icing on the cake is the display which is vibrant and smooth all the time. Overall, the phone delivers on all fronts be it the performance, camera or battery life. If you are out there looking for a premium flagship smartphone without any major compromise, the Find X8 is an almost ‘Pro’ phone you can buy.
