OpenAI has rolled out a new subscription plan called ChatGPT Go exclusively for users in India. Priced at Rs 399 per month, this plan is among the company’s most affordable offerings and is designed to provide wider access to popular ChatGPT features at a lower entry cost.
Benefits
The Go plan includes all features available in the free tier along with extended access to GPT-5, OpenAI’s flagship model. Subscribers will get higher message limits, more daily image generations, additional file uploads, and expanded use of advanced data analysis tools like Python. The plan also doubles the memory available compared to free accounts, allowing for longer context retention in conversations.
OpenAI says the plan is targeted at users who want more flexibility without paying the higher charges of Plus or Pro. While Plus, at Rs 1,999 per month, unlocks legacy models such as GPT-4o and tools like deep research, connectors, and Sora video creation, the Go tier keeps the focus on core usage and affordability.
Availability and access
ChatGPT Go is being introduced gradually across India. Users can check eligibility by logging into their ChatGPT account, selecting the profile icon, and navigating to “Upgrade Plan.” Once the plan becomes available, they can choose “Try Go” to subscribe.
Subscribers will be able to use Go features across platforms, including the ChatGPT mobile apps and through 1-800-ChatGPT on WhatsApp. However, API usage remains outside this subscription and will be billed separately.
Payment modes
OpenAI has enabled local payment methods for the Go tier. Users can pay via credit cards or UPI in Indian rupees, a move that follows the company’s earlier shift to INR-based billing for subscriptions in the country. Subscriptions are billed monthly, and users can cancel anytime.
The launch comes shortly after OpenAI revised the pricing of its existing plans in India, with Plus costing Rs 1,999 and Pro priced at Rs 19,900 per month. By contrast, the Go plan is positioned as an affordable entry point for individuals who want more access to AI tools without committing to higher-priced tiers.
OpenAI has confirmed that Go will not include connectors, legacy models, or Sora. Instead, it is focused on extended access to GPT-5 and multimodal features at a budget-friendly rate. The company plans to study feedback from India before expanding Go to other markets.
