Google’s Nano Banana goes mainstream: Image editing comes to Gemini AI Mode and Lens
After its viral success inside the Gemini app, Google is expanding the reach of its Nano Banana model — now officially called Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. The playful name hides serious power, as the feature lets users generate and edit images directly from Search’s AI Mode and Google Lens, making creative edits faster and more accessible.
Nano Banana Graduates to Gemini 2.5 Flash Image The AI model that took social media by storm is no longer limited to the Gemini app. Google has rebranded it and integrated it across its ecosystem for image creation and manipulation.
New Shortcut in AI Mode Users will now see a ‘+’ icon at the bottom-left of the prompt box in Search’s AI Mode. It’s the entry point to start creating or editing images — while voice input and Lens have been shifted to the right.
Streamlined Prompt Design The cluttered carousel of suggested prompts has been replaced with a clean list layout, improving usability and focus within AI Mode.

Create, Edit, or Snap The new menu offers three choices: Gallery, Camera, or Create Images (banana emoji included). The last one activates Gemini’s image-generation capabilities.
