If you own a Garmin GPS watch user, you may have noticed a mysterious blue triangle appear on your smartwatch screen recently. Many users have also reported that their watches have been stuck on endless boot loops, even after shutting down or restarting watches. Thankfully, the company has now acknowledged the issue and provided users with a temporary workaround to unlock affected devices, with a permanent fix expected to arrive in the coming days.
Blue triangle on a Garmin smartwatch: What to do
The blue triangle bug, which has recently appeared on several Garmin smartwatches and fitness trackers, seems to make an appearance when the user reboots their watch, or attempts to start a run or another activity that requires Garmin users to activate the GPS of the watches. Notably, this bug has been spotted on a variety of Garmin models, including the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, and Vivoactive models.
However, the company has issued a fix for this persistent issue. According to a report by Android Authority, Garmin has stated that anyone experiencing these issues should “visit support.garmin.com for steps to resolve the issue.” Moreover, the support page also has step-by-step instructions for each type of Garmin watch.
The company also acknowledges that you'll lose the data that wasn't already synced to your watch by following these steps, as it will force reset the watch. Further, Garmin adds: “To resolve this, press and hold the power button until the device turns off, then power it back on, and sync with the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express.”
