To promote responsible gaming and digital well being, the Karnataka government has launched "Beyond Screens", India’s first industry-led digital detox initiative.
The initiative, a partnership between Karnataka’s department of electronics, IT, biotechnology, and science & technology and All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), aims to encourage “balanced technology” use and address the growing challenge of digital addiction through structured interventions.
“With a strong focus on education, support, and empowerment, the initiative provides structured solutions through short-, medium-, and long-term objectives,” AIGF said in a statement.
Powered by Kahamind Healthcare Private Ltd, Beyond Screens will serve as a comprehensive resource hub for individuals struggling with digital addiction.

Karnataka IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge said Beyond Screens would not only offer immediate support for those struggling with digital addiction but also integrate detox programmes into mainstream healthcare.
The goals include raising awareness of excessive digital use, supporting individuals in inculcating healthier digital habits and developing research-driven strategies to tackle the problem.
“As a firm believer in balance in our digital lives, I always say, ‘sunlight before screen light’,” the minister said. The 'Beyond Screens' initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting responsible digital consumption and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
“Whether it’s setting boundaries with your devices or learning to unplug without guilt, we are here to help every step of the way. This will be a crucial step toward fostering a healthier relationship with technology, ensuring people can thrive both online and offline,” he said.

Speaking at the launch, AIGF CEO Roland Landers stressed on the industry’s role in fostering responsible digital engagement. “We are honoured to support the Karnataka government in launching 'Beyond Screens', a pioneering initiative in digital wellness. This is a significant first step toward encouraging a balanced and responsible approach to digital engagement,” he said.
