Amid a rise in the number of Electric Vehicles (EVs), the government has notified “Guidelines and Standards on Charging Infrastructure” to promote the overall EV ecosystem.
"Considering the burgeoning numbers of electric vehicles (EVs), ‘Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles – Guidelines and Standards’ have been notified to promote the ecosystem of charging infrastructure," the Economic Survey for the financial year 2023-24, tabled in the Parliament on July 22, said.
On June 28, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) issued the revised Guidelines and Standards for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure.
The norms were first issued on December 14, 2018 and have been revised at least six times. The guidelines and standards help the industry in the installation and operation of the EV charging Infrastructure.
Firms or individuals who are looking to set up charging stations have to adhere to these guidelines.

The survey highlighted that the phase II of FAME scheme approved an outlay of Rs 11,500 crore for FY20-FY24.
The move aimed to give a boost to EV demand by supporting 7,000 e-buses, 5 lakh three-wheelers and around 10 lakh two-wheelers.
In the interim budget, the government said it will focus on EV manufacturing as well as strengthening the supporting charging infrastructure as the country move towards the net zero emission target by 2070.
"As India moves towards its net zero emission target by 2070, the Government will work towards expanding and strengthening the EV ecosystem as well as develop the charging infrastructure," finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her interim budget speech on February 1.
