Amazon India's annual shopping sale, the Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2024, set new records for customer engagement, seller success, and product launches. The month-long sale, which kicked off on September 27 with a special Prime member early access, offered a plethora of deals on a wide range of products.
The festival saw a significant surge in demand for affordable 5G smartphones, with over a third of all smartphone sales coming from the budget segment (under Rs 10,000). Some of the popular brands included Realme, iQOO, and Xiaomi.
Interestingly, the premium smartphone segment (above Rs 30,000) experienced the highest year-on-year growth in terms of volume, said Amazon in a press release.
Large-screen TVs proved to be a popular choice, accounting for roughly a third of total unit sales and showing a 10% year-over-year growth. Samsung, Xiaomi, and Sony emerged as the top-selling TV brands during the sale, as per Amazon. The Redmi Smart Fire TV 32" claimed the title of the best-selling television on Amazon India.
Both non-gaming and gaming laptops witnessed a significant rise in demand, with overall sales growing by approximately 30% year-on-year. The non-gaming sector saw a surge in interest for the latest 13th Gen Intel i3, i5, and i7 processors, with sales growing tenfold compared to last year. Gamers, on the other hand, gravitated towards high-end Intel i7 series laptops, resulting in a 55% year-over-year increase in sales.
Both truly wireless earphones (above Rs 1500) and Bluetooth speakers experiencing over 50% year-on-year growth. The tablet market also saw a boom, with Apple tablets witnessing a tenfold increase in sales compared to the previous year. Samsung tablets also saw 5 times growth.
Furthermore, Amazon reported selling its highest number of PS5 SLIM consoles during AGIF 2024. Additionally, the sale fueled a 60% surge in controller sales, driven by new launches in both traditional controllers and handheld mobile gaming devices.
