Yashasvi Jaiswal became the joint second-quickest Indian to reach 1000 Test runs against England on Wednesday. The southpaw achieved the feat in the fourth Test of the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester, which marked his ninth red-ball appearance against the Three Lions.
He took just 16 innings to reach the milestone, which now draws him level to former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin - who too achieved the feat in the same number of innings. Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar sit at top of the list, with both doing it in 15 innings each.
Jaiswal is the 20th Indian batter overall to enter the 1000-run club against England in Tests.

Tendulkar holds the record for most runs scored by India versus England in Test matches. Over the course of his 24-year career, Tendulkar played 32 Tests against them and scored 2535 runs. Sunil Gavaskar, who concluded his career with 2483 runs in 38 Tests against England, comes behind him.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal was eventually dismissed for 58(107) by Liam Dawson in India’s first innings. He had earlier combined with KL Rahul to give India a promising start after being asked to bat by Ben Stokes. The pair added 94 runs for the first wicket as KL Rahul was dismissed for 46 by Chris Woakes.

Jaiswal has shown good form in the series, smashing two half-centuries and a century in the total seven innings he has played so far. He, however, would be disappointed knowing his ability to play marathon knocks.
