On his first day in Dubai, a few days before the Champions Trophy in February began, India batsman Shreyas Iyer was overwhelmed with frustration, anger, and tears at the practice session. Iyer was "shocked" by his own feelings as he struggled to adjust to the circumstances in Dubai.
During a Kandid with Kings episode, Iyer was answering a question about the last time he had shed a tear. "Last time I cried was during the Champions Trophy, first practice session. Like literally crying, crying. Because I batted in the nets, and it didn't go well. I was so angry with myself that I started crying. And I was also shocked at the fact that I don't cry that easily," he said.

Iyer had a strong three-match run against England at home, which was played right before the Champions Trophy. He cemented his spot and solved India's No. 4 conundrum after amassing 181 runs from the three games.
"I thought I would carry the same flow with me, but the wickets were different and to adapt on the first day itself was an arduous task," said Iyer. "When the practice ended, I wanted to practice a little extra and I did not get the chance to do it, so I got angry," he added.
However, the Champions Trophy ended up being the competition for Iyer. With 243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60, he finished India's winning campaign as their highest run scorer. Iyer finished as the second-highest run scorer overall, only surpassed by Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand (263 runs).
Iyer continues his rich exploits in IPL
Iyer continued to build momentum for Punjab Kings in the T20 format. He was purchased for a record Rs 26.75 crore at the super auction last November, making him the second most expensive player in IPL history. Rishabh Pant, who joined the Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore, is the most expensive player. Later, Iyer was appointed captain.
Iyer has amassed 159 runs in three innings, including two fifties, at a strike rate of 206.49. In addition to leading by example with the bat he has also been a fine captain as Punjab, who are still vying for their first IPL championship, have won two of their first three games.
