Shreyas Iyer released his first statement after spending days in a hospital in Sydney. The 30-year-old was admitted after sustaining an impact injury on his rib, which led to internal bleeding and forced him to be sent into ICU.
Iyer has responded well to the treatment with BCCI also informing that the middle-order batter is on the "road to recovery".
On Thursday, Iyer left a message for well-wishers on his Instagram account. "I'm currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts," his story read.

If we go into the details of the nature of injury, Iyer "sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding."
Iyer hurt himself while fielding in the third ODI against Australia. It happened when he was positioned at backward point and in order to grab a top edge off Alex Carey, Iyer ran backwards and plunged into a dive to complete the catch.
While Iyer was successful in completing a superb catch, he had to leave the field following the incident and subsequently the team management rushed him to hospital in Sydney.

As reported by RevSportz, the latest setback will put Iyer out of action for the next two months. This rules him out from the forthcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa at home next month, starting from November 30.
In addition, his participation for the New Zealand series, which will be played in January, also remain uncertain.
