A day after defeating West Indies in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Team India left for their next assignment, which is a white-ball series against Australia, starting from Sunday. Before leaving for Australia early on Wednesday, players who were not part of the Test series, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, reassembled with the rest of the touring party in New Delhi. Shreyas Iyer, who has been elevated as ODI vice-captain, was seen on the team bus sitting next to Kohli.

Also a video of newly appointed ODI captain Shubman Gill meeting his predecessor Rohit Sharma at the team hotel was shared by BCCI on social media. Gill was also observed shaking hands with Iyer and Kohli on the bus.

Rohit and Kohli also shared a light moment as the former was seen making a namaste gesture towards the other before both shared a hug.

Later, Kohli and Rohit paused to sign autographs for fans gathered at the airport, turning the team’s departure into a memorable send-off ahead of the series, which is crucial for both premier batters.

Following the announcement of India’s ODI squad for the series, and the shocking change in guard, questions have been raised on the duo's international future. With both already retired from Tests and T20Is, speculation grew that the management were preparing to usher in a younger core ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
