Prithvi Shaw made a dazzling debut for Maharashtra by smashing a hundred in their Buchi Babu Trophy encounter against Chhattisgarh at Guru Nanak College in Chennai on Tuesday. Maharashtra could only muster 217 runs in response to their opponents' 242 runs, with Shaw accounting for 111 of those runs, making this an early score of importance.
Shaw made an instant impression on his first competitive appearance since December 2024.
On Thursday, the official handle of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shared a video of Shaw in which he is elaborating on his special connection with Chennai.
Shaw says, “It’s obviously hot in Chennai but it feels great because I’ve always scored some runs over here whenever I’m here. I think Chennai is quite special for me.”

On his first match in the city, Shaw said, “First experience of playing in Chennai was during IPL, 2019 I think. We played at obviously Chepauk, really good experience.”
On the Buchi Babu Trophy tournament, Shaw said, “I think it’s a really good tournament, before the Ranji season it happens, and I’m playing (in it) for the first time. I just played my first game and it’s a good experience because all the state teams come together before playing the Ranji Trophy and you get very good practice before the season starts. So it’s really good for all the players who have participated in it.”

On his Maharashtra debut, Shaw said, “This is my first game for Maharashtra, scoring a 100, it feels really special. I hope this thing continues till Ranji Trophy and whatever the upcoming matches come for Maharashtra.”
Shaw's spectacular knock followed after Maharashtra lost four quick wickets for 16 runs, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad of the Chennai Super Kings.
The 25-year-old remained resolute and contributed significantly to his team's runs. With 14 boundaries and a six, he reached his century off just 122 balls on a low-bouncing pitch.
Shaw joined Maharashtra after leaving Mumbai at the end of the previous season. He was removed from their Ranji Trophy squad, which prompted the move. In December 2024, he made his final appearance for Mumbai. In June, Mumbai granted him a certificate of no objection to swap teams. Even though he went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction, Shaw wants to revive his career.
