Mohammad Nabi, widely regarded as the greatest cricketer to emerge from Afghanistan, continues to make headlines even at the age of 40. Over the past 18 years, the veteran all-rounder has featured in more than 440 T20 matches, representing over 40 different teams across the globe.
Though he last represented Afghanistan in a T20 International in December 2024 against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, Nabi is currently active in domestic cricket. He is playing for the Mis Ainak Knights in the ongoing Shpageeza Cricket League.

On Tuesday (July 22), during a league match against Amo Sharks in Kabul, Nabi found himself bowling to a very familiar face—his 18-year-old son, Hassan Eisakhil. Introduced into the attack during the ninth over, the experienced spinner conceded 12 runs in his only over. The highlight of that over came on the very first delivery, when Eisakhil, a top-order batter, launched a towering six off his father’s bowling.

The moment of the father-son clash quickly caught the internet's attention. A video clip showing Eisakhil dispatching Nabi over the boundary was posted on X (formerly Twitter) and has since gone viral, drawing reactions from fans around the world.
Eisakhil is a specialist batter and as of now he has played a total of 25 T20 matches. On Tuesday, he scored 52 runs off 36 balls for the Amo Sharks. He has a total of 599 runs in his T20 career so far.
Earlier this year, Nabi reversed his decision to retire from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after the 2025 Champions Trophy. Although he had earlier announced the tournament would mark the end of his ODI career, Nabi revealed his intention to continue playing in the format, aiming to share the field with his son, Hassan Eisakhil.
"These might not be my last ODIs, I will probably play less ODIs and give chances to the youngsters to build experience," Nabi told the ICC. "I've discussed with the senior players and in the high-level games, maybe or maybe not, we'll see. It will depend on my fitness."
"It's my dream. Hopefully we can do it. He is doing very well … he is a hard worker and I'm also pushing him to do work."
"I want him to make his own goals, if you want to get to be a high-level cricketer, you have to work hard. It's not enough to make 50 or 60, you have to score 100-plus. He's listening and pushing all the time. When he can talk to me, I try to give him advice to give him confidence for the game."
